1. How long until my domain name works? - Top

It takes up to 24 hours to have your domain working worldwide if your nameservers (DNS) have been setup properly.

2. What does it mean to "register" a domain name? - Top

The Internet Domain Name System (DNS) consists of a directory, organized hierarchically, of all the domain names and their corresponding computers registered to particular companies and persons using the Internet. When you register a domain name, it will be associated with the computer on the Internet you designate during the period the registration is in effect.

3. What is involved in registering a domain name in .com, .net or .org? - Top

To register a domain name, you will be asked to provide various contact and technical information that makes up the registration. The Registrar will then keep records of the contact information and submit the technical information to a central directory known as the "Registry." This Registry provides other computers on the Internet the information necessary to send you e-mail or to find your web site. You will also be required to enter a registration contract with the Registrar, which sets forth the terms under which your registration is accepted and will be maintained.

4. I just registered a domain name with you... But, when I went to the WHOIS, it STILL says AVAILABLE... is there a problem ? - Top

NO.
The WHOIS is NOT a REAL TIME check.
The ONLY WAY to actually check in REAL TIME, is to go to networksolutions.com and try using their domain name checking box on their FRONT PAGE.
That will tell you that the domain is no longer available, EVEN though a WHOIS check will show NO MATCH for the domain.
It normally takes about 48 hours for the NEW domain name to show up in the WHOIS.
